SBS Tournament of Champions Raises More than $300K
The SBS Tournament of Champions announced it raised more than $300,000 for Maui charities during this years event.
“We want to thank our sponsors, volunteers and all spectators for their support, who allow us to give back to this wonderful community,” said Nancy Cross, executive director of the SBS Tournament of Champions. “The island of Maui always embraces this event with open arms and we take pride in being able to help support these worthy local organizations.”
The six primary beneficiaries of the 2017 event were Boy Scouts of America, Friends of the Children’s Justice Center, Hale Makua Health Services, J. Walter Cameron Center, Ka Lima O Maui and Lahainaluna High School Foundation. The designated beneficiaries assisted in promoting the event, provided volunteers and more.
A donation was also made to participants of the Hawai’i State Junior Golf Association, Maui Junior Golf and Lahaina Junior Golf for helping to promote the game of golf among Hawai’i’s youth.
Several other local non-profits also benefited from the tournament through its Golf for Maui Charities program, which gave 501(c)(3) organizations the opportunity to promote the sale of tickets to this year’s tournament and receive 100% of the net proceeds.
With this year’s addition, the tournament and host organizations have donated nearly $6 million to Hawai’i community charities since its move to Maui in 1999.
The 2018 SBS Tournament of Champions will return to The Plantation Course at Kapalua on Jan. 3-8.
All four competitive rounds will be broadcast on the Golf Channel.
