Moloka‘i Library Celebrates 80th Anniversary on Saturday
The Molokaʻi Public Library will celebrate its 80th Anniversary on Saturday, May 27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 15 Ala Mālama Avenue.
The library, which opened on May 21, 1937, celebrates its Anniversary featuring performances on the front lawn by Hālau Hula o Nohikupuhalaulani, under the direction of Kumu Valerie Dudoit-Temahaga; Hālau Hula Ka Noʻeau, directed by Kumu Michael Pili Pang; music by Nā ʻOhana Hoaloha, words of appreciation and celebration from State Librarian Stacey Aldrich, and exhibits inside the library.
Sri Tencate, who has served as the Branch Manager for 31 years, said, “My fondest memory of the library is being part of the community and the HSPLS ʻohana, getting to know the library users, and being able to successfully assist them with their information and literacy needs. It is my hope that historic Molokaʻi Public Library, the only public library on our island, will continue to be an inviting hub of our community and a favorite gathering place for life-long learning.”
This special Anniversary event is sponsored by the Friends of the Library of Hawaiʻi, Maui Friends of the Library, Friends of the Molokaʻi Public Library, and other generous organizations.
