Wailuku Man Medevaced After Jump at Ke‘anae Pond
A 28-year-old Wailuku man was medevaced to the Maui Memorial Medical Center in serious condition after suffering injuries during a jump into a pond near the Keʻanae Peninsula on Sunday afternoon.
The incident was reported at 1:58 p.m. on Sunday, July 24, 2017, at a freshwater swimming hole off of the Hāna Highway.
Fire officials say the man reportedly jumped about 15 feet from a ledge into the pond, suffering multiple injuries to his upper and lower extremities after landing on some rocks in shallow water. Authorities say the victim was living at a hostel in Wailuku and was swimming at the pond with group of friends when the mishap occurred.
Hāna firefighters arrived on scene at 2:37 p.m. to find the male victim sitting in the pond at the water’s edge. Firefighters placed the man in stretcher basket and carried him to the Hāna Highway where he was loaded into an ambulance, which took him to Keʻanae Park on the Keʻanae Peninsula for transport by medevac to the hospital for further care.
