Construction Safety Training Program to be Held on Maui

For the first time, the Construction Safety and Injury Prevention program will be offered across the state. The upcoming class on Maui will be offered on Aug. 16 and 18.

The US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration has granted the Building Industry Association of Hawaiʻi the Susan Harwood Capacity Building Grant, which provides funds for training programs to educate construction workers and employers on methods to recognize, avoid, and prevent of hazards in the workplace.

The training will teach occupational safety and health training and technical assistance to employers and employees in the construction industry. Additionally, workers will learn about their rights and employers about their responsibilities under the Occupational Safety and Health Act.

Training will be offered on Maui at the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College.

• For Workers on August 16, from 8 a.m to noon.
• For Safety Managers and Safety Coordinators on August 16, from 1 to 5 p.m.
• For Managers, Employers, and Supervisory Staff on August 18, from 8 a.m. to noon.

2014 marked the deadliest year for work-related fatalities in Hawaiʻi, of which construction was the most lethal.

Registration is free and available to small and/or new construction businesses, workers in construction, and workers who are not currently employed but are interested in the construction industry.
