Hawai‘i Surfer Highlights at Hurley Pro and Swatch Pro at Trestles

The Hurley Pro and Swatch Pro at Trestles, Stops No. 8 and 7 of the Men’s and Women’s World Surf League Championship Tour, will continue today in three-to-four foot waves at Lowers. Competition will start with the remaining eight heats of men’s Round 2 at 8 a.m. followed by women’s Rounds 2 and 3 (Heats 1 – 3).

“We have great conditions again today,” said Renato Hickel, WSL Deputy Commissioner. “We have three-to-four foot waves with the occasional five-foot-plus set. We’ve called the competition on for an 8 a.m. start with the remaining heats of men’s Round 2. After we complete that round, we will go into women’s Rounds 2 and 3. We are excited for another great day of surfing here at Trestles.”

Today’s action will start with a hefty match-up between San Clemente’s own Kolohe Andino (USA) taking on the formidable goofyfoot Jadson Andre (BRA) in Round 2 Heat 5.

Another bout toward the building rivalry between 2016 Rookie of the Year Caio Ibelli (BRA) and an in-form Kanoa Igarashi (USA) continues action with Round 2 Heat 10.

Anallgoofyfoot affair awaits Round 2 Heat 7 as 2017 CT Rookie Joan Duru (FRA) will battle Californian Nat Young (USA).

A battle of the rookies ends Round 2 Heat 12. On the women’s side, it will be the first elimination Round 2 and an all-Hawaii affair as three-time WSL Champion Carissa Moore (HAW) will battle against Malia Manuel (HAW). *UPDATE: 3X World Champion Carissa Moore of Hawaiʻi advanced to Round Three of the 2017 Swatch Pro Trestles after defeating fellow Hawaii surfer Malia Manuel in Heat 1 of Round Two at Huntington Beach.

2016 WSL Champion, defending event winner, and current No. 1 Tyler Wright (AUS) will be against wildcard threat Macy Callaghan (AUS) in Round 2 Heat 3.

Six-time WSL Champion Stephanie Gilmore (AUS) must overcome elimination against fellow Aussie Bronte Macaulay (AUS) if she’s to earn a second-career Trestles win.

The Hurley Pro and Swatch Pro at Trestles will be broadcast LIVE via WorldSurfLeague.com.
