Ruben Barroga Lagazo
March 6, 1946 – September 25, 2017

Ruben Barroga Lagazo, 71, of Lahaina, passed away on Sept. 25, 2017 at Maui Memorial Medical Center. He was born on March 6, 1946 in the Philippines.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, 2017 at Ballard Family Mortuary, service will begin at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the funeral home on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, at 10 a.m., service 11 a.m. and burial 2 p.m. at Maui Memorial Park.

Ruben worked in the maintenance department at the Kapalua Golf Course.

He is survived by his wife, Imelda Lagazo; children, Harold (Marife) Lagazo, Kathy (Gilson) Concepcion, Junnel Lagazo, Julius Lagazo, and Joewel Lagazo; siblings, Rosario (Edward) Kalb, Ely (Antonia) Lagazo, Froilan (Emma) Lagazo, and Angie (Wilfred) Vidad; eight grandchildren, Kim, Chandler, Britney, Momi, Kaegil, Caitlin, Skyler, and Skyson; and three great-grandchildren.

Ruth Esther Kircher
August 22, 1949 – September 25, 2017

Ruth Esther Kircher, 68, of Wailuku, passed away on Sept. 25, 2017, at Hale Makua Wailuku. She was born on Aug. 22, 1949, in New York.

A memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017, at Doris Todd Memorial Christian School in Pāʻia. Norman’s Mortuary is assisting with arrangements.

Ruth was an elementary school teacher at Doris Todd Memorial Christian Academy. She is survived by her siblings, Judy Carol Kircher Bergland, Marjorie Joyce Kircher Givens, and James Allen “Jack” Christian Kircher.

Robert “Bob” Grant Poulson

Robert “Bob” Grant Poulson
June 15, 1949 – September 24, 2017

Robert “Bob” Grant Poulson, 68, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Sept. 24, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jacki Poulson, his children Elias (Venesha), Nellie Foster (George), Esther Poulson, and grandchildren Gabe, Isla, Rogue, Charlotte, Cattleya, and Alistair, as well as many extended family members.

Bob was born in Los Angeles to Clarence and Doretha Poulson. He moved to Roscoe, IL when he was 11 and graduated from Hononegah High School in 1967. Bob went to college in LA where he majored in art with a minor in photography. In 1974 Bob returned to Roscoe where he married his childhood friend Jacki Cummings.

In 1979 the Poulson’s moved to Hawaiʻi, and spent seven years on the island of Hawaiʻi before moving to Maui. In 1986 Bob and his dear friend Daryl formed Arita/Poulson General Contracting at a time when Maui was growing and changing. They were able to serve the community and build and remodel many structures around the island including schools, banks, shops, hotels, restaurants, healthcare facilities, and community centers. Bob could often be seen working along with his employees, teaching young people from diverse backgrounds, and forming many deep, lasting friendships in the community. Arita/Poulson has since expanded, received multiple awards in excellence, and serves the community state-wide with a second office in Oʻahu.

Bob was a member of the Living Word Fellowship Church, where he was an associate pastor at Hale O Nā Kāula Church on Maui. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing with his grandchildren, working outside, and tending his yard. Bob will be remembered for his love, patience, kindness, generosity, and willingness to always help others. He was a man of faith, and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

A public memorial service will be held on Friday Oct. 20, 2017 at Pukalani Community Center between 4 – 6 p.m. Light refreshments and pupus will be provided.

Raymond Walter Wade Kaho’okele Sr.

Raymond Walter Wade Kaho’okele Sr.
April 16, 1947 – September 24, 2017

Raymond Walter Wade Kaho’okele Sr., 70, of Wailuku, passed away on Sept. 24, 2017, at Maui Memorial Hospital. He was born on April 16, 1947 in Honolulu. Raymond was State Motocross Champion, Deacon at Nahiku Protestant Church. He loved fishing and golfing.

Memorial service will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday Oct. 13, 2017 at Norman’s Mortuary; prayer service will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Raymond worked at Associated Steel as a Supervisor. He survived by his sons, Raymond (Catherine) Kaho’okele Jr., and Dustin Wade Kalani Kaho’okele; daughters, Rayna-Marie Leinaala Kaho’okele-Fernandez and Marjorie (Willy) Kaho’okele-Pe’a; brothers, William Henry Kaho’okele; sister, Louise Alina; grandchildren, Leroy, Kekoa, Keanu, Triston, Napueo, Rachel and Rheanna; great grandchildren, Kealiikai and Titus. Raymond also survived by former wives, Brenda Joyce Pimentel and Charity Tavares.

Josefina V. “Siping” Lagrimas

Josefina V. “Siping” Lagrimas
August 6, 1935 – September 23, 2017

Josefina V. “Siping” Lagrimas, 82, of Pāʻia, passed away on Sept. 23, 2017 at her residence. She was born on Aug. 6, 1935 in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, 2017 at Ballard Family Mortuary, Kahului; service will begin at 7 p.m.

Visitation will continue on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017 at the funeral home from 8 to 10 a.m., burial will follow at Maui Memorial Park at 10:30 a.m.

Josefina was a homemaker. She is survived by her daughter, Julia Lagrimas (Barry Clark); and son, Antonio (Mariejoy) Viloria; grandchildren, Briana Lagrimas-Melendez (Ikaika Lopez), Sage Dominguez (Fernando Kalei Maciel), Tehya Aiyana Dominguez, Anthony Viloria, and Noah Viloria; great-grandchildren, Kassius Kymani Lopez, and Sarai Ymani Lopez.

Henry Kealoha “Hanalei” Stanley Wong
November 1, 1957 – September 23, 2017

Henry Kealoha “Hanalei” Stanley Wong, Jr., 59, of Kula, passed away on Sept. 23, 2017 at Maui Memorial Medical Center. He was born on Nov. 1, 1957 in Honolulu.

Visitation will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6, 2017, at Ballard Family Mortuary, service will begin at 5:30 p.m., and cremation will follow.

Henry was better known as the cowboy from Mākena. He worked in many unique jobs from ranch hand at ʻUlupalakua Ranch, truck driver for Rojac, bodyguard for Willie Nelson, construction worker for Novato Builders, and a self-taught mechanic.

He is survived by siblings, Lamalani Talmadge, Kimo Alo, Wendell (Bonnie) Wong, Maipela Kaonohi-Alo, Cindy (Glen) Nakamura, Randall “Chuchu” Cruz; and many nephews and nieces. Hanalei was respected by many and will be truly missed. Maui has again lost a true cowboy and a true son of Mākena. May you rest in love until we meet again.

Kathy Michiko Miyahira Feliciano, 58, of Kahului, passed away on Sept. 22, 2017 at Maui Memorial Medical Center. She was born on Jan. 3, 1959, in Wailuku.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 6, 2017, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Maui Lani West Stake; service will begin at 11 a.m.; burial will follow, 12:30 p.m., at Maui Memorial Park Cemetery in Wailuku.

Kathy was a receptionist at Roselani Place. She is survived by her mother, Eva Miyahira; children, Doreen (David) Glennie, Howard Feliciano II, Jessica (Earl J. JeanMarie Neolani Martin, 49, of Pāʻia, passed away on Sept. 22, 2017, at Maui Memorial Medical Center. She was born on Dec. 28, 1967, in Honolulu.

A memorial will be held on Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, at Norman’s Mortuary, with visitation from 9 to 11 a.m.; sharing will begin at 11 a.m.

Jean was predeceased by her mother, Karen Kealoha Wagner. She is survived by her husband, Oresio Martin; children, Noelani Kealoha Martin, Oresin Edward Martin, Orlando Martin; hanai sons, Ernesto Haro-Perez, Juan Haro Perez; father, Douglas E. Wagner Sr.; siblings, Jennis I. Pyatt, Glennis R. Wagner, Douglas E. Wagner Jr. (Rose), Samuel E. Allen S. Matsumoto, 68, of Kula, passed away on Sept. 22, at Maui Memorial Medical Center. Allen was born in upper Pāʻia to Masaru and Alice Matsumoto. After graduating from Maui High School in 1967, he joined the army, completing his term of service as a medic. Upon returning to Maui he worked as a heavy equipment mechanic at Fuku Construction Co. and later worked 28 years for the County of Maui, in the Finance Department as a Motor Vehicle Safety Check Inspector. While working full time with the County, he attended the The Aloha School of Massage Therapy and became a licensed massage therapist.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his former wife, and good friend, Pamela Kantarova (Richard Sylva); three daughters, Iris, Rose and Lilia; brother, Leslie (Loretta); and sister, Loreen (Fred) Jue. He also leaves behind a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at Norman’s Mortuary on Saturday, Sept. 30, beginning at 10:30 a.m., with visitation at 10 a.m.

The family would like to thank MMMC ICU doctors and nurses for their compassionate care of Allen.

Kyra Kay Marshall, 54, of Pukalani, passed away on Sept. 21, 2017, at Maui Memorial Medical Center. She was born on April 23, 1963, in Greensburg, PA.

A celebration of Kyra’s life was held on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017, at Kam III Beach, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Kyra is survived by her companion, Clarence “Boy” Freitas; parents, Albert “Sherman” & Geneva Hall; son, John Wesley Marshall; daughter, Alilia Dawn To’ia; sister, Dawn Knight; brother, David Hall; nieces, Olivia & Taylor; and nephews Walker & Jackson.

Helen Diane Cummings

Helen Diane Cummings
July 15, 1947 – September 16, 2017

Helen Diane Cummings died peacefully at home in Pukalani on Sept. 16, 2017 at the age of 70. Helen was born in Cleveland, OH in 1947.

She was a gypsy and a dreamer with a heart of rock-n-roll and an artist’s spirit. She moved to Northern California in 1969 where she married Michael Cummings, had two children, and worked in theater and event production in a hippy utopia. Helen and Mickey moved to Maui in 1985 where Helen started her massage therapy studio, Back to Center Massage, and worked as a rehabilitation therapist for over 25 years. During that time she developed a line of natural health and beauty products called Maui Excellent. She is famous for her aromatherapy Hawaiian fragrance blends and her signature Volcano Oil designed for massage and sore muscles. Helen was passionate about her business and advocating for Maui-made products. Helen loved her family and her animals and rhythm & blues. She had a smile that lit up a room and an amazing spirit and energy that will not be forgotten.

Helen leaves behind her daughter, Julia Cummings, and son, Jamison Cummings, and her two granddaughters Addison and Piper as well as her cherished friends and business partners Steven Bearman and Artie Blaquiere.

Carmen Rivera Gusman, 72, of Kahului, passed away on Sept. 9, 2017, at Kula Hospital. She was born on Nov. 8, 1944.

She was predeceased by her husband Jonah Gusman and her parents Americo & Joanna Rivera. Clint K.M. Isomura, 47, of Kahului, Maui, passed away on Sept. 5, 2017, at Maui Memorial Medical Center. He was born on Sept. 20, 1969, in Honolulu.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017, at Faith Family Fellowship, 420 N Wakea Ave, Kahului; service will begin at 11 a.m.

Clint was an Assistant Manager at Villas at Kenolio. He is survived by his parents, Ronald & June Isomura; daughter, June Isomura; stepsons, Apineru (Michelle) Tugaga, Ieremia Tugaga, Lolesio Su’a, Toni Owens; step daughter, Angel Su’a; and nephew, Evan Nishimura.
