High Surf Advisory, Choppy Surf for East Facing Shores

On Oct. 5, at 12:42 p.m., the National Weather Service issued a high surf advisory for east facing shores that will remain in effect until 6 p.m. Friday.

The NWS says strong trades are producing rough and choppy surf along east facing shores and that conditions are expected to last through Friday after the winds weaken.

The advisory is in effect for the following: Kauai, Windward Oahu, Koolau-Olomana-Molokai, Windward Maui, Windward West-Windward Haleakala, South Big Island, Big Island North and East.

Surf along east facing shores is expected to be 5-8 feet through Friday.

NWS says impacts are moderate and to expect strong breaking waves, shore break, and strong longshore and rip currents which will make swimming difficult and dangerous.

Precautionary actions include heeding all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution. Boaters should expect recreational surfers and body boarders utilizing harbor channels to access surfing areas.
