December 7, 1929 – October 6, 2017

Stephen Cabral, 87, of Kailua, Maui, passed away on Oct. 6, 2017 at his residence with Hospice care. He was born on Dec. 7, 1929 in Nāhiku, Maui.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017 at Ballard Family Mortuary, service will begin at 7 p.m.

Visitation again on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017 from 9 to 11 a.m. at St. Rita Church, mass 11 a.m. and burial will follow at 1 p.m. at the Maui Veteran’s Cemetery.

Stephen was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He retired from East Maui Irrigation where he worked as a Superintendent for 52 years. He loved fishing and hunting, and he was a well-known rancher.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lucky Cabral; children, Stephanie (Luis) Belloso, Margaret “Koko” Cabral, Stephen “Boy” (Cora) Cabral, Mary Jo “JoJo” Cabral (Arnold Gerard), Shirley Ann (Ipo) Hoopai, and Anna Marie Lokelani Cabral; 8 grandchildren, Jeremy, Jessica, Lawaia, Shauvlin, Lindsay, Stephen, Corey, and Aukai; 12 great-grandchildren, Domenic, Alyssa, Kalani, Pono, Alexandria, Mia, Lopaka, Jason, Adam, Risa, Noah, and Eva; sister, Cyrilla Medeiros; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Dr. Bush, Dr. Echart Dobbs, and all the nurses and aides at Maui Memorial Medical Center, Haleakalā South.

Harold “Chey” Haupu Jr.
July 13, 1953 – October 4, 2017

Harold “Chey” Haupu Jr., 64, of Wailuku, passed away at home on Oct. 4, 2017, under the care of Islands Hospice, surrounded by his family and friends. He was born on July 13, 1953, in Hāna Maui.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, at Normans Mortuary; service will begin at 11 a.m.; final visitation noon to 1:30 p.m; burial will follow, 2 p.m. at Maui Memorial Park cemetery, Garden of Meditation in Wailuku. Norman’s Mortuary is assisting with funeral arrangements.

Chey was a Grounds Maintenance worker at Hale Mahaolu – Luana Gardens in Kahului.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Gail Ku’uipo Uweko’olani Haupu; children, Shane Haupu, Sheldon Haupu, Sherman (Nichole) Haupu, Malia (Justin) Haupu-Waiohu; grandchildren, Isaiah Haupu, Tyson Haupu, Carly Haupu-Waiohu, Luke Haupu-Waiohu, Tayvan Haupu; father, Harold (Mary Villiarimo – deceased) Haupu Sr.; siblings, Hiram Haupu – deceased, Henry Haupu – deceased, Marian Nona Haupu, Hendrick “Tano” (Vannassa) Haupu, Hymie “Berna” Haupu, Herman “Butch” (Carol) Haupu, Hank (Andrea) Haupu, Miriam “Mitch” (Gilbert) Rebolledo, Hugh “Bobby” (Donlyn) Haupu, Hilary (Lisa) Haupu; sister in law, Elaine Haupu; Hanai Siblings, Ronald (Christine) Haupu, Alohalani Haupu, Hanalei Haupu; and also loved by numerous nieces and nephews.

Maryvonne P. Kosatschkow
September 11, 1940 – October 3, 2017

Maryvonne P. Kosatschkow, 77, of Ha‘ikū passed away on Oct. 3, 2017. She was born on Sept. 11, 1940 in Paris, France.

She worked as a waitress at Luigi’s restaurant before she retired.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, 2017 at St. Rita Church in Ha‘ikū, mass will begin at 11 a.m. and burial will follow at 1 p.m. at the Maui Veteran’s Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, Viktor J. Kosatschkow; son, John E. (Gina) Crenshaw; daughters, Madeleine (Randy) Joseph, and Marianne Crenshaw; six grandchildren, Christopher, Tyler, Maegan, Jesse, Ramsey, and Xiana; eight great-grandchildren; and uncle, Michel Laurent.

Michael “Smokey” James Gomes

Michael “Smokey” James Gomes, 55, of Waiehu, passed away on Oct. 3, 2017 at his residence. He was born on Nov. 13, 1961 in Wailuku.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017 at Ballard Family Mortuary, service will begin at 11 a.m., and burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Maui Memorial Park.

Michael was a security officer at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center.

He is survived by his mother, Julia Gomes; daughter, Shauna (Heather) Arcangel; brothers, Anthony (Naomi) Blanco, Javier (Gloria) Perez; and grandson, Ikaika Arcangel.

Rose Ibarra Olaso

Rose Ibarra Olaso, 82, of Hilo, passed away on Oct. 11, 2017 in Hilo. Rose was born Nov. 11, 1934 in Papaikou. She was a waitress. Celebration of life to be announced at a later date.

Survived by her Husband Donald Olaso; Sons Dominic (Cindy) Olaso of Oʻahu; Derek (Pearla) Olaso of Kona; Darin (Rosy) Olaso of Maui; Damon (Terri) Olaso of Hilo; Sisters Narcissa (Ronald) Van Pelt of Indiana; Lourdes Covey of Oklahoma; Elvira Oreskovich of Kansas, numerous cousins.

John Joseph Hamacher

John Joseph Hamacher
September 10, 1950 – October 10, 2017

John Joseph Hamacher, 67 of Kailua-Kona, was born in Los Angeles and passed away on Oct. 10, 2017. John was raised and attended school in Los Angeles. In his adult life he lived and worked in Medford, OR where his daughters were born. In 1985 he came to California where he worked as a construction contractor in the San Francisco Bay Area. John retired in 2004 and moved to Hawaiʻi with his wife and son.

Eventually he joined with four other fellow retired volunteers as a team helping non-profit groups with small construction projects. They were dubbed the “Rat Pack” and the name stuck. He took great pride in his work and enjoyed sharing his skills with others. John also enjoyed family outings, family gatherings, car shows, movies, and watching the Kona sunset.

He is survived by spouse Mary; son Stephen Hamacher of Denver, CO; daughters Staci (Andrew) Bajuniemi of Walnut Creek, CA; Linsey (Trevor) Rogers of Tillamook, OR; sister Donna Fischer of Grants Pass, OR; brother Michael (Arlene) Hamacher of Los Gatos, CA; and two grandchildren. He has several loving cousins and in-laws.

An open house for Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017, at the Kona Educational Center (formerly Outdoor Circle) from 3 – 5:30 p.m.. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of Kona or your favorite non-profit are appreciated.

Charles Bauguess Jr.
March 17, 1953 – October 2, 2017

Charles Bauguess Jr., 64, of Mt. View passed away on Oct. 2, 2017. Bauguess Jr. was born on March 17, 1953 in Oʻahu. Celebration of life to be Oct. 21, 2017 by the pier in Pohiki at 10 a.m. with refreshments to follow.

Survived by his Sons, Charles Bauguess III (Sunny); Jason Bauguess; Daughter Mindy Bauguess; brothers, Louie (Nina) Bauguess; Richard Bauguess; Sister Paulina Bauguess; six grandchildren.

Patricia Ann “Tutu” Windlow
February 6, 1937 – September 28, 2017

Patricia Ann “Tutu” Windlow, 80, of Ainaloa, passed away peacefully on Sept. 28, 2017 at home. Patricia was born on Feb. 6, 1937. She was a Retired Animal Groomer.

Patricia is survived by step-mother, Norma “Pree” Brown; sons, Eugene Duvall, Maury Duvall, and Glen Byrd; daughters, Patrice Bell, Deidra Nunn, and Collette Duvall; brother, Phil Brown; sister Rosemary Zehner, 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Celebration of Life will be held at Uncle Robert’s Hale in Kalapana, on Oct. 13, 2017 at 5 p.m.
