Former Maui resident, Stephanie Mitchell is a finalist in the 2018 Maxim Cover Girl competition for Canada.

She’s in the running for an opportunity to represent BC, Canada in a two-page spread, which also features a $10,000 CAD (Canadian Dollar) grand prize.

The 24-year-old professional model spent her younger childhood growing up on Maui where she attended Kamaliʻi Elementary School from Kindergarten to 5th grade.

While in the islands, she learned to dance hula and surf, played soccer, and spent most of her time singing and dancing with Game Kids–the TV entertainment show for children which sought to share traditional Hawaiian games with others.

“I have always loved to be in front of the camera, and I believe that it was the Hawaiian culture that made me the confident, loving individual I am today. I owe my upbringing to Maui, my Hawaiʻi family, and the teachers that forged this fire inside me, teaching me that I can do anything I set my mind to,” said Mitchell in an email communication to Maui Now.

Mitchell has since relocated to Victoria, BC, Canada where she was picked up by a modelling agency. “That was just the start of my new career as a professional model. Soon I will be relocating to Toronto, Ontario where I will continue as a full-time model,” she said.

Mitchell hopes the Maxim competition will open up doors for her career.  “The Maxim Magazine is something that every swimsuit model strives to make cover for. This magazine is international and has launched so many careers in the past,” Mitchell said.

“This industry is everything to me. I thrive in it. Thank you to Kīhei and the rest of Maui for pushing me to follow my dreams,” said Mitchell.

Mitchell is currently in first place for her group and has advanced from a pool of contestants that reportedly began with more than 1,400 entries.  She is seeking daily public votes online before the contest concludes on June 28, 2018.
