East Rift Zone Eruption Loitering Citations (June 2, 2018)

Two more people were cited for allegedly loitering in a closed volcanic area in the East Rift Zone in Lower Puna over the weekend.

31-year-old Colin Malone and 59-year-old Kent Davis, both of California were cited on Pohoiki Road, past the Lava Tree State Monument.

This brings the total number of citations issued since the onset of the current eruption began in May to 86.

The citations are petty misdemeanors but under a Governor’s proclamation people convicted could be fined as much as $5,000 and/or be sentenced to one year in jail.
