The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will host its 1stAnnual Main Hawaiian Islands Monk Seal Count on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. After successfully completing 10 years of semi-annual monk seal counts, NOAA is beginning a new era of annual events.

The Monk Seal Count is open to everyone and only requires spending a few hours along Maui’s beautiful coastline looking for the endangered Hawaiian monk seal. There is also an opportunity to spend some time picking up trash and cleaning up around the seals’ shoreline habitat.

No experience is needed but participants need to attend one of the following pre-count meetings:

Monday, October 22nd, 2018
Time: 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Location: Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary, Kihei, Maui
