The Division II girls basketball tournament is slated to run from Wednesday, Feb. 10 to Saturday, Feb. 13 at Kea’au and Waiākea High Schools, with swimming and diving championships running concurrently from Feb. 12 to 13 at Kamehameha Schools-Hawai’i.

Kahului Man Arrested for Alleged Attempted Arson at Maui Oil Company

Maui Oil Company workers observed a male suspect pouring liquid on the company's gas tanks. Police say the container contained motor oil which the suspect allegedly attempted to light on fire.

Insufficient Staffing: Partial Closures of Hāna and Lānaʻi Landfills

Due to insufficient staffing, the Hāna Landfill will close at 1 p.m. on February 11, 18, 19 and 20, 2016 and the Lānaʻi Landfill will close at 1 p.m. February 19 and 20, 2016.

Hawaiʻi County Mayor Declares State of Emergency in Wake of Dengue Fever Outbreak

A proclamation signed by Mayor Kenoi today effectively suspends a law currently in place relating to landfills to the extent necessary to effectively control and eliminate the dengue fever virus on the island.

Maui Police Promote Five to Sergeant

The Maui Police Department announced the promotion of five officers to the rank of Sergeant. The promotions include: Dawn Danley, Masa Kaya, John Surina, Matthew Bigoss, and Eric Losvar. All promotions took effect on February 1st.
