Re: Hawai‘i Lawmakers Call on FCC to Protect Net Neutrality
Posted by Jonathan Latimer on 11/21/2017 3:49pm

The Executive Branch has made it clear it is no friend of net neutrality.

The Republican controlled FCC is ignoring *millions* of citizen complaints about the probable repeal of Title II.

Companies like Comcast and Verizon have often sued startups into the ground to *prevent* competition -- until Title II stopped that practice.

Laws have been passed in twenty states, preventing any adoption of municipal net services.

Those that have access to municipal internet have the fastest internet *in the hemisphere.*

Ajit Pai wants to reclassify "broadband" *downward* to 10Mbps download/1Mbps upload, because at the current FCC's defined 25Mbps download/3Mbps upload broadband standard, there are no ISPs at all in 30 percent of developed census blocks and only *one* offering service that fast in 48 percent of the blocks. And that one bends over backward to make sure no competition becomes available. Don't fix the problem, or improve the systems, just redefine the word.

About 55 percent of census blocks have no 100Mbps/10Mbps providers, and only about 10 percent have multiple options at that speed.

Absolutely the comment of note, is planning for the doubling and tripling of population. I would suggest planning for the stabilizing and sustaining a livable population that absolutely caps growth would be more to the will of the population of this island and will be the future litmus test of any local politician.

I don’t live on Maui, being from Big Island, but did met with Arakawa’s cabinet in 2014 to discuss bioremediation of Waste water, storm water erosion control and highway slope stabilization with superplant vetiver and this gentlemen was unfortunately the most outspoken negging and naysaying Director there. Nothing positive, just how positive change couldn’t be done.

Re: Ask the Mayor: Can Pedestrian Signal Be Installed at Keonekai-South Kīhei Intersection?
Posted by Karen Brubaker on 11/20/2017 1:33am

I'm a tourist coming to Maui many years who has almost been hit at that intersection. If you won't do it for the locals, do it for your visitors. Don't count on kokua if a tourist gets hit. They will read this post, talk to locals (everyone who lives there knows how bad this intersection is!) and sue everyone they can.
So sorry for the person who got hit, and for the loss of her dog.

Can the liberal mind be changed? Probably not. But perhaps we can encourage Democrat voters to put together two parent families and raise their kids right, since it’s usually them that are shooting each other.

Show the overall homicides if you want to make a point, dont cherry pick 2 countries that dont have much other than language in common with the US,
Show all the stats for violent crime or homicide and the US comes in toward the bottom.
Here are the top 6 for gun violence since your scope is so narrow
Per 100,000
1. Honduras 90.4
2. Venezuela 53.7
3. Belize 44.7
4. El Salvador 41.2
5. Guatemala 39.9
6. Jamaica 39.3
This is per a study done and published in the early part of 2017
The USA does not even make the top 25 list, not even close
Still not giving anything up no matter what the infringers do,,, again cold dead hands, pile of brass, and im not alone

Really? some one is found DEAD in the morning, reported before school started, which means he died, probably hours before/during the night, being found, and you associate his death with being a pedophile? WTF is wrong with you? Oh and btw,,,it's 'seems' like the trend of our world, NOT Seams like the trend...Seams are what you find on your skirt...

Those flashing lights are neat. Perhaps it’s not as simple as it seems to put up lights like that. People should just be more cautious and careful before then.

Yup looks like the mayor will be cut out from funds... so ditch the guy who knows best and keep the public uninformed....as far as water goes we have 460 million gallons per day with no where to go until the mayor makes the deal which of course this gentleman will not be around to blow the whistle

Re: Unanimous Vote to Keep Rent Affordable at Front Street Apartments

The state screwed up and let a deadline pass so the developer could get out of the agreement. The state isn't going to pay for there mess, this is local politics trying to make themselves look good to the voters.

Re: Hawai‘i Lawmakers Call on Trump to Address Gun Safety

I'm not sure of the comparisons you're trying to make here, but it would make more sense to list the countries where similar gun laws exist, otherwise you're comparing apples to oranges.

If it's to show the difference between counties with gun prohibition and those without, then that's a whole different discussion.
