Re: Uber and Lyft Pilot Program Implemented at Honolulu Airport
Posted by Nickcrowley81 on 2/24/2018 5:21pm

Except most Uber drivers quit after a few months because the cost to operate is no way close to profit. Taxis and shuttles charge a fair price for the level of service they offer compared to the market costs of being a transportation for hire company.
I’m not going to give a lesson here because you can easily find this information for yourself and here it is. Most every sound economic voice in the study of Uber predicts its complete failure if it doesn’t heavily increase its fares. Which it will of course, once it drives out all the horrible buses taxis and shuttles that everyone complains about since Uber started. The entire European Union banned Uber and Lyft in part for this reason along with the fact that they told Uber and Lyft to simply follow all the rules of the taxi companies and they’d be ok. Uber and Lyft CANNOT do that because they know the drivers would never be able to afford the true market cost of running a for hire transportation business.

Re: Ask the Mayor: How Do I Make a Police-Related Complaint?
Posted by Maui_Mike on 2/24/2018 3:48pm

Write out your complaint, then stick it in a bottle and throw it into the ocean......you will get more action this method than the one the mayor recommended.

Congratulations to everyone and Thank you, Maui Police Department for recognizing the Family Members. Now, those newly promoted have an important job, to train and to know the Emergency Preparedness Protocols in every situation.

So glad that you are safe. Everyone makes mistakes. Hopefully we learn from them not to repeat. You must be a good person because God watched over you and obviously saved you. It was not your time.

P.S.
I wonder if your critics even go in the ocean. They always seem to enjoy when...tourist have problems.
Aloha
Happy and safe kayaking

Lame tourists?

Well with the current traffic going to Lahaina west side residents will be the major players there.
Kona put in a bowling alley in about 20 plus years ago with 20 plus lanes public bowling was non existent due to teams filled all the open times. So if you wanted to go bowling you had to join a team if the team had an opening.
I agree 30 lanes or more a restaurant (NOT A ZIPPY'S) and a hostess bar with Karaoke open 24/7 yup lets make some kamaina rates and for the tourists we can add shipping to their admission, oh lets not forget the handling charges too
I am interested to do a capital joint venture investment anyone in?

I suspect the rent on any mentioned buildings would be too high. How about the disused plywood building between the Mill & MFOL. ? Huge and possibly cheap.

Thank you so much! It is hard to try to do everything right. Struggle all night and make life decisions. Swim in on my own in the darkness to the right spot. Trying to recover and feel beat up by these people that wish I had died :-O ..... I appreciate your understanding and kindness. Many Mahalo's

Jill
Get an EPERB.
Laird Hamilton saved his life by having one when he was lost at sea off the Big Island on his jetski a few years ago.
If you can't afford one, sell your kayak, and take up collecting puka shells.
I am not going to argue with you about conditions on Sunday morning. I know what they were, I checked at 4 am, and I decided NOT to surf.
Did you really check all the buoys? Don't think so.

It is about time lahaina getting something good . But sad it has only 3 lanes. It needs more lanes to survive. I can actually see it, it won't last to long. Not enough lanes to make the income to pay their rent and other bills. But it is a very good idea. But bad planning. Sad...
The only way they'll survive is if they charge outrageous price to play. But, that will also kill them cause the people won't pay the high price.
I hope they have plans to increase the amount of lanes. Yes, I do want to see it survive. but we'll see....

I couldn’t agree with you more!

I agree with you but I wouldn’t want to invite any world event that effects us negatively. Yes, the almighty dollar is their bottom line. Spending money to attract tourists and then denying the money for any type of ocean safety education for those same tourists. A portion of all vacation rentals and hotels GET and property taxes is suppsosed to be allocated towards ocean safety and supporting life guards but it’s not. Wonder where all that money is going? If they don’t change things, it’ll be going out to families of drowning victims who sue the County.

The community has to be aware of people with disabilities also would like to have a opportunity to attend activites.

Now is this wheelchair accessible ? And when they built this did they bear in mind people with disabilities ?

I did read the follow up and realize that you were doing everything quite right. I've done long-distance sailing many times and I realize all too well that when you are out in that ocean no matter how beautiful it is you are at the mercy of God and the elements. I am so happy that you are okay thank you for your response to my comment.

Re: Ask the Mayor Redux: How Many ‘Ohana Are Allowed On a Property?
Posted by hawaiiansupaman on 2/23/2018 2:15am

Thanks for the information. Why isn't the zoning information available on the Maui County website? This is what it says we need to do.

County zoning (and other designations such as State Districts, Maui Island Plan, Community Plan, and Flood Zones) can be obtained by submitting a Zoning and Flood Confirmation Form to the Department of Planning. This form is available at the link below. You may fax the completed form to (808) 270-7634, e-mail to the Planning Department at Planning@mauicounty.gov, or mail or bring it in to our offices in the One Main Plaza Building, 2200 Main Street, Suite 315, Wailuku Hawaii 96793. The turnaround time is up to 20 business days.

Yeah thats SUPER!!! But were the heck is all this tax money thats being pulled in by our overcrowded and under-built infrastructure island???? This is going to end badly! Maui is Doomed! For Shame those that have and continue to allow this to happen to our small island. Its been soldout to a very dangerous way of AMERICAN lifestyle! Again this will be very bad when it pops. The anger and pain will only grow stronger with the greed. Aloha Aina!!

Someone mentioned below about people being rescued have been elderly. The vog has a has a very serious effect on the elderly and especially those was asthma or hard problems. Unfortunately, most of our visitors are not aware that what looks like fog is actually toxic vog.

If they can't afford a safety video, they should be doing the same thing that you were doing, handing out ocean safety Flyers to each passenger on all flights to Hawaii upon boarding, giving passengers the entire flight to read about ocean safety.

Re: California Man Rescued, Pulled from Ulua Beach in South Maui
Posted by Kim Burger on 2/22/2018 4:56pm

Maui Mike,

Your absolutely right! It's time for a video on the planes!
I've spoken with MVB about an in flight Ocean Safety video and they tell me there isn't enough $$$$ to afford that on planes. It's all about the $$$. I'm working with a few people here in Hawaii to propose a bill that would make it mandatory to show Ocean Safety videos on all incoming flights to Hawaii. It'll take time but we will keep pushing until it's done! Enough is enough! In the meantime, we are creating a flyer to pass out to tourists on the beaches where the majority of drownings are occurring. It will educate them on snorkeling, currents, full face mask and CO2 dangers etc.
