High-Surf Advisory Issued for South Shores of Maui

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a high-surf advisory for the south-facing shores of Maui, in effect from midnight tonight until 6 a.m. Thursday, June 6.

A large south southwest swell is expected to build tonight with surf reaching advisory levels by morning. This swell will peak on Tuesday and Wednesday. Surf will be 5 to 8-feet by late tonight and 8 to 12-feet by Tuesday afternoon.

A ‘high-surf advisory’ means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, producing rip currents and localized beach erosion.

Beach goers, swimmers and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution. Boaters should expect recreational surfers and body boarders utilizing harbor channels to access surfing areas.
