Water Conservation Urged on Maui as Flossie Nears
By Wendy Osher
The County of Maui issued an advisory this afternoon, calling on residents to conserve water tomorrow, as Tropical Storm Flossie begins making its way across the island chain.
“Water should be used for health and sanitation purposes only as a precaution in case water or wastewater systems fail,” said county authorities in a press release. “All other uses should be delayed until after the storm passes,” officials said.
The county also advised that anyone camping at county beach parks will be evacuated today. County officials say camping will be prohibited at all beach parks until further notice.
On the roadways, the Maui Bus system is expected to operate on its regular schedule on Monday; however, riders should be aware that there could be changes to routes depending upon the severity of the storm, officials said.
“The Maui Bus system could come to a complete halt if weather conditions cause the roads to become unsafe,” officials said.
Officials with the Maui Police Department also advised that the MPD Records Section will be closed to the public on Monday due to the incoming storm. This means the public will not be able to obtain police reports or register firearms.
