Maui police made 60 DUI arrests during a two-week impaired driving crackdown that concluded on Sept. 2, 2013.
The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign was part of a nationwide effort to stop impaired driving.
During the campaign, Maui police set up unannounced intoxication checkpoints throughout Maui County, which included Hāna, Lānaʻi and Molokaʻi.
Maui Police Lieutenant Ricky Uedoi, commander of the Traffic Section said, “This was a successful operation by the results that were produced. We hope that people get the message that we are taking a zero tolerance on impaired driving and those that fail to adhere to it will be arrested.”

Upon conclusion of the campaign, Lt. Uedoi said the police department wants to make sure that highways and roadways are safe for everyone to use. He said the department will continue throughout the remainder of the year to address these issues.
“As the holiday season rapidly approaches, we encourage everyone to drive sober and take precautions on protecting themselves while in a vehicle. Seat belts do save lives and reduce injuries in crashes. Slow down, stay off the phones and arrive alive,” said Lt. Uedoi.
