3.0 Quake Reported Near Waimea on Hawaiʻi Island

The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory  reported a 3.0 preliminary magnitude earthquake at 3:45 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, about five miles NE of Waimea, on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center did not issue any advisories in association with this event.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 17.3 miles, according to the USGS, and was located: 39 miles NE of Kailua-Kona, Hawaiʻi; 41 miles NW of Hilo, Hawaiʻi; 53 miles NW of Hawaiian Paradise Park, Hawaiʻi; and 168 miles ESE of Honolulu, Oʻahu.
