Maui Firefighters Reflect Upon 9/11 in Remembrance

Firefighters on Maui were among the many individuals across the nation who took time today to reflect upon the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in memorial and remembrance of the lives lost and brave actions of fellow first responders.

The memorial in remembrance event included a moment of silence, observed at 8:44 a.m. fronting the Kahului Fire Station, to honor the victims that died on September 11, 2001, said Maui Fire Captain Bram DenHaan.

Maui Fire Chief Jeffrey Murray issued a statement saying, “On the 12th anniversary of 9/11 we’re paying tribute to our fallen emergency workers of which 343 were fire fighters. We need to take this opportunity of their sacrifice to also use it in a positive way, to keep us motivated in our profession and to provide the best professional service to our community. To the ultimate sacrifice, God bless them.”

Officials from the Maui Department of Fire and Public Safety noted that a total of 2,977 people died during four incident locations including more than 400 emergency workers at the World Trade Center in New York City.
