The non-profit Community Work Day Program, now doing business as Mālama Maui Nui, hosts its annual “Get the Drift and Bag it” marine debris and shoreline cleanup campaign with a launch event this weekend.
The event is scheduled to run from 9 to 11:30 a.m. this Saturday, Sept. 21, starting at Kamehameha Iki Park in Lahaina. The cleanup includes the stretch of coastline extending from Puamana to Kāʻanapali in West Maui.
Additional cleanups are planned by Mālama Maui Nui over the next 30 days, in partnership with the Ocean Conservancy.
“This annual cleanup is an opportunity for residents to join together in a global effort to remove litter and debris from our coastal environment,” said event organizers in a media release.
Mālama Maui Nui encourages businesses and residents to participate in any of the scheduled cleanups through October 21, 2013 by adopting a site in their neighborhood. For more information, interested groups can contact MMN at (808) 877-2524 or email [email protected].
