Responding firefighters arrived to find a 10,000-square-foot area of brush involved, officials said.

While fighting the fire, officials say the flames jumped across the highway and began burning a 1,300-square-foot area next to Ballards Mortuary.

Additional fire crews were called in, and both fires were brought under control and extinguished by 3:18 p.m.
