Olowalu Brush Fire Burns Small Area Near Dump

A small brush fire was reported early this morning near the Olowalu dump transfer station in West Maui, fire officials said.

The incident was reported at 1:37 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31, on the makai side of the Honoapiʻilani Highway.

Responding firefighters from Lahaina arrived on scene to find an area approximately 150-feet by 75-feet of brush and grass on fire, said Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.

The fire was called under control by 2:27 a.m., and extinguished at 2:38 a.m., officials said.

No damages or injuries were reported, and cause of the fire was undetermined, according to FS Chief Mainaga.
