North Shore Surf Rolls in for Christmas
By Wendy Osher
A high-surf advisory is in effect for the north-facing shores of Maui until 6 p.m. on Christmas Day, Dec. 25.
The National Weather Service expects surf to rise today and remain elevated at 15 to 20 feet along the north-facing shores of Maui tonight and on Wednesday.
The agency also has a high-surf advisory in effect for the north- and west-facing shores of Molokaʻi, with west-facing shores to bring in slightly smaller sets at 10 to 15 feet.
The advisory means surf will produce rip currents and localized beach erosion that can make swimming difficult and dangerous.
The NWS advises beach goers, swimmers, and surfers to heed the advice of Ocean Safety officials and exercise caution along affected shorelines.
“Know your limits. When in doubt…don’t go out,” the NWS advisory states.
