Comment Period Extended for Proposed Pu‘unani Subdivision

The state Land Use Commission has extended the comment period for the proposed Puʻunani Subdivision in Central Maui.

Comments on the project’s Environmental Impact Statement Preparation Notice are now being accepted through Feb. 6, 2014.

Under state law, an extension can be made “when requested by a consulted party that shows good cause,” according to an updated posting published in the Environmental Notice issued by the Office of Environmental Quality Control.

The Puʻunani Subdivision is proposed by Towne Development of Hawaiʻi Endurance Investors and Association of II Wai Hui, and includes 147 residential lots, 450 multi-family units, commercial space, and a 15-acre park, according to the EISPN.

The site is proposed for development on more than 200 acres of land along the Honoapiʻilani Highway below Wailuku Heights, and between the master-planned Kehalani community and Waiolani subdivision.

The project first came on the radar five years ago in January, 2009, when Pacific Rim Land submitted a Draft Environmental Impact Statement.

That document was subsequently withdrawn, and the new EIS Preparation Notice was published in December 2013, to address new information and plans.
