Fire Causes $100,000 Damage to Haʻikū Shed

A morning fire at a storage shed in Haʻikū resulted in an estimated $100,000 in damage, according to fire officials.

The incident was reported at 9:06 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at 520 North Honokala Road.

Upon arrival at 9:26 a.m., crews from Engine-2 out of Pāʻia found the 600-square-foot shed burned to the ground, according to Captain Kris Sakamoto with the Maui Department of Fire and Public Safety.

Crews from Tanker-10 out of Kahului and Engine-5 out of Makawao also responded to the incident and worked to mop-up and extinguish what was left of the fire, said Capt. Sakamoto.

According to department reports, the fire resulted in an estimated loss of $35,000 to the structure, and $65,000 in damage to the contents.

There were no injuries reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
