The state Department of Land and Natural Resources closed the Molokaʻi State Forest Reserve to vehicular access due to “unsafe road conditions caused by heavy rains.”

The closure extends from the Maunahui access road from the hunters’ check station to the Makakaupaia gate.

DLNR officials say forest use activities such as hiking and hunting are still accessible.

“The forest reserve access road is projected to reopen as soon as weather permits and hazardous conditions are addressed,” authorities said in a press release announcement.

Assessment includes use of heavy equipment to remove debris from the road, and resurfacing where needed.
