Maui Economic Opportunity hosts a community meeting today to gather public input on the organization’s Ke Kahua Project located on the Kahekili Highway at the Waiehu Beach Road intersection.

Organizers are looking for thoughts on how the site could be of social and economic value to the community.

Ideas that have surfaced so far include farming, a farmers market, cultural or farming workshops, eco-tourism, and monthly events or festivals.

The organization has been using the site as a gathering place for clients from the BEST (Being Empowered Safe Together) prisoner reintegration program for events and workshops.

Youth participants have also used the site to prepare huli or taro starter plants to the Waiehu community; and schools have used the location for educational purposes.
