Man Sought for Questioning in Kihei Bank Robbery Arrested

A man that police had sought for questioning in a bank robbery reported over the weekend, was arrested last night in Pukalani.

Kristopher Michael Sharrott, 40, was arrested at around 6 p.m. on an unrelated second-degree theft case, according to Maui Police Lt. William Juan.

Second degree theft is classified as the theft of anything over $300.

Acting on a community tip that Sharrott was seen in Pukalani, patrol officers checked his last known residence.

Police say officers noticed activity within the home when the arrived on scene.

“As the Patrol Officers cautiously approached the home, Sharrott, ran out of the house and was caught after a brief foot pursuit,” said Lt. Juan.

Sharrott was being held in lieu of $5,000 bail, according to police.

Earlier this week, police issued an advisory saying they were looking for Sharrott for questioning in the robbery of the Bank of Hawaiʻi branch located in the Kīhei Safeway store on Sunday afternoon.

According to police reports, an unknown offender walked into the store at around 1:57 p.m. on Sunday, approached a  teller, and allegedly handed the teller a note demanding money.

Police say the bank teller furnished the suspect with an undisclosed amount of currency, and the offender fled out of the store in an unknown direction.
