An eight-year-old girl on Lānaʻi was treated and released from the Lānaʻi Community Clinic after suffering a pellet gun wound to the head over the weekend, police said.

The incident was reported at around 6:51 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2014, and has since been classified as a miscellaneous accident.

Police say the girl was treated for non-life threatening injuries, and that the incident remains under investigation.

“The department wishes to remind anyone using any type of air gun to be mindful of their surroundings and use it in designated areas only. Also juveniles shall be supervised by a responsible adult while operating an air gun,” Maui police said in a press release statement.
