According to police reports, Hoover was found floating face down and motionless at around 2:27 p.m. on Sunday, June 15, 2014, about 10 feet from shore in calm waters.

Police say beach goers pulled him to shore and began Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation on the man until emergency personnel arrived on scene.

Officials say medics and firefighters were eventually able to regain a pulse while administering CPR, and transported Hoover to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for further treatment where he was later pronounced dead.
