A visitor was pulled from the water at Pu’u Keka’a or Black Rock in Kāʻanapali after he was found motionless in the water on Sunday afternoon, police said.

Police have since identified the man as Woonsaek Baek, 31, of South Korea.

The incident was reported at around 3:24 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014.

Police say witnesses found the man in the water and brought him to shore.

Personnel from Lahaina Patrol, the Maui fire department, and medics were dispatched to the incident, and CPR was conducted by first responders, according to department reports.

Despite life-saving efforts, police say the victim died at the scene.

The cause of death has not been determined and is pending autopsy results, and is currently classified as a miscellaneous fatal accident.
