Pine, Ironwood Tree Removal to Affect Traffic in Hāna Town

County crews will conduct tree removal work along the Hāna Highway in Hāna Town between Monday, Oct. 27, and Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014.

County officials say crews will remove five Cook Pine trees and 11 Ironwood trees that are decaying and are at risk of falling.

In May, three individuals suffered non-life threatening injuries when a large pine tree fell along Mill Street in the East Maui town of Hāna.

The trees are located along the county-maintained right-of-way on the Hāna Highway just south of Mill Place and Haneoʻo Road, near Hasegawa General Store

Motorists are advised that traffic in the area will be stopped intermittently for 15 to 20 minute intervals to ensure the safe removal of the trees.  Whenever possible, county officials say one lane will be opened to restore the flow of traffic.

Work is weather permitting.

County officials say replacement trees will be planted where appropriate.
