Makana on Maui for CD Release Celebration, Dec. 10

Hawaiʻi musician Makana celebrates the release of his new double disc album on opening night of Hawai’i Life’s Worthshop Conference at the Andaz Maui at Wailea at 8 p.m. on Dec. 10, 2014.

The concert is free for all Worthshop ticket holders, and $25 (plus applicable fees) at the door for any guests and Makana fans.

Makana’s new album is currently only available at live events, and this will be the first time it is available on Maui.

Originally from Oʻahu, Makana is an accomplished slack-key guitarist, singer, composer, philosopher, activist and one of Hawaiʻi’s cultural ambassadors.  He is noted for taking a centuries-old tradition of slack-key and blasting it into the twenty-first century.

While slack key is the basis of his music, Makana transcends the traditional label by delivering music that sublimely dresses incredible complexity in simple melody and heartfelt delivery.

His songs range from traditional to original, both instrumental and lyrical, exploring a broad spectrum of themes: cultural, philosophical, sociopolitical, economic, interpersonal, sensual, and universal, often through the lens of humor and a piercing wit.

Aside from touring and performing with artists such as Gotye, Leon Russell, Jason Mraz, Chris Issak, No Doubt, Sting, Santana, and Elvis Costello, Makana has released seven albums to date and is the winner of two Hawaiʻi Music Awards and an Artist for Peace Award.
