Christmas Tree Recycling Programs Announced

Several Christmas Tree “treecycling” options are available, according to an announcement from the County of Maui Department of Environmental Management, Solid Waste Division. Both drop-off and nonprofit, donation-based tree pickup services are available.

Residents who would like to use any of these services must remove all holiday ornaments, lights, hooks, tinsel, flocking, etc. so that the trees can be composted properly.

The county’s recycling program is sponsoring free residential Christmas trees drop-offs at the following landfills:

Central Maui County Drop-Off Location

EKO Compost at the Central Maui Landfill

New Year’s Day 6 a.m. – noon

West Maui County Drop-Off Location

Trees accepted until Jan. 31. For all other greenwaste drop-offs, call (808) 874-0899 for fees.

Upcountry

Makawao Elementary School (Ukiu Road)

Sunday, Jan. 4, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

$5 donation to support the fifth grade end-of-the-year banquet

Central Maui

Valley Isle Soccer Academy Fundraiser

Service are available for Kahului, Wailuku, Ha’ikū, Kīhei and Wailea

Saturday, Jan. 3, 7 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Accepting $10 donation per tree

Upcountry

Rotary Club of Upcountry Maui

Service available for Pā’ia, Ha’ikū, Makawao, Pukalani and Kula

Saturday, Jan. 3, 8 a.m. – noon

To schedule a pickup, call (808) 878-2177. Residents are asked to set the trees out on the curb before 8 a.m. on the day of pickup.

$10 donation per tree to support Upcountry Rotary’s community projects
