Habitat Maui ReStore Celebrates 10th Anniversary With Blowout Sale

Habitat for Humanity Maui’s ReStore is celebrating its 10 year anniversary of operations on Maui with a two-day blow out sale on Friday and Saturday, May 22 and 23, 2015.

The event will include food, drinks, door prizes, games and demonstrations on both days.

The Habitat for Humanity Maui ReStore started operations in the Old TK Market in Happy Valley with a 2,500 square foot store. In 2009, the store relocated to its current location at 970 Lower Main Street in Wailuku with more than 8,000 square feet of space.

The ReStore takes new and used building materials and furniture which otherwise would go to the landfill and sells them at a large discount to the general public.

Program representatives say the program saves tons of items from the landfill, provides a tax deduction for donors and provides low cost home improvement supplies to the general public. “It is a win-win for everyone involved,” said representatives with Habitat for Humanity.

All funds raised at the store go directly into Habitat for Humanity Maui’s building and renovation fund to help low-income families obtain simple, decent housing.

Since it was incorporated, Habitat for Humanity has built and renovated more than 100 houses on Maui, Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi, providing homes for over 500 people in the community.

The organization’s mission is to build decent housing and to renovate substandard housing on Maui in partnership with community volunteers and potential homeowners so that homelessness and substandard housing on Maui is eliminated.
