UPDATE/CAPTURED: Maui Police Search for MCCC Escapee

Inmate Leif Valdez, also known as “Lucas Rauh” escaped from the Maui Community Correctional Center between 1 and 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, according to Maui police.
Police say Valdez was last seen wearing a green prison top and pants. Valdez is described as 26-years old, standing 5-feet 6-inches tall, weighing 150-160 pounds, with brown/black hair and brown eyes. Police say he has a tattoo of a dragon head on his left forearm.
The state Department of Public Safety said Valdez was reported missing from the 3 p.m. head count at the facility. DPS officials say how Valdez escaped is under investigation. The Maui Police Department Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the case as a second degree escape.
According to DPS officials, Valdez was housed in a minimum security dorm on the perimeter of the facility. Valdez was in minimum security custody and was serving a 15-day sentence for a fourth-degree misdemeanor theft charge. The sentence end date was June 3, 2015.
Anyone with information on Valez’s whereabouts is asked to call 9-1-1.
This was the second escape reported today. Earlier on Tuesday, a female pre-trial inmate, Tasha Gonsalves, was reported missing from a 5:30 a.m. head count. She was arrested at around 2 p.m.
