Two Lahaina Men Hospitalized After Honoapiʻilani Jeep Rollover

Two Lahaina men were transported to the hospital following a Jeep rollover accident on the Honoapiʻilani Highway near Wahikuli Road in West Maui on Wednesday night.
Police say one of the men, a 33-year-old resident remains in critical, and the other, a 32-year-old man was being treated for substantial injuries. According to police reports, no seat belts were used at the time of the crash and both men were ejected from the vehicle.
The incident was reported at 10:53 p.m. on the Honoapiʻilani Highway, about 77 feet north of Wahikuli Road near Mile 22 of the Highway in Lahaina.
Police say the green 1999 Jeep Wrangler multi-purpose vehicle was traveling north on the highway when the driver lost control of the vehicle. According to police reports, the Jeep left the paved portion of the roadway, drove onto the unpaved shoulder, and rolled over.
The injured men were the only occupants of the vehicle, and there were no other vehicles involved in the crash.
According to an accident synopsis compiled by Traffic Section Sergeant Nick Krau, police have not determined the involvement of speed, drugs or alcohol, as the investigation is ongoing.
