A 20-month-old boy was medically evacuated to Maui after losing consciousness aboard a tour boat near Molokini Crater on Monday morning, July 20, 2015.

A Coast Guard crew from Station Maui used a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium to transfer the boy and his parents from the Pride of Maui, and safely transported them to Māʻalaea at 11:15 a.m. where they were met by medics with the Emergency Medical Service.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Station Maui received notification from a crew member aboard the tour boat at 10:44 a.m. that a passenger was unresponsive. They directed the launch of the Coast Guard crew with an Emergency Medical Technician aboard, and arrived on scene at 10:55 a.m. to conduct the transfer and transport the family to land.

The boy was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center where he was treated and later released in stable condition.

The Coast Guard 45-foot RB-M replaced the aging and outdated 41-foot Utility Boat and boasts an improved design, new ergonomics and enhanced safety features making boat crews more effective in performing their multiple missions.
