Louisiana Visitor Rescued in Waters off Kāʻanapali

A woman visiting from Louisiana was rescued in waters off of Kāʻanapali on Sunday afternoon after she became caught in a windline while stand up Paddle boarding, fire officials said.

The incident was reported at 2:28 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 9, 2015.

Lahaina firefighters arrived at the beach fronting the Honua Kai Resort in Kāʻanapali at 2:37 p.m. to find the individual about 300 yards from shore and struggling to make headway against the wind.

Fire officials say crews aboard an ocean safety rescue watercraft made contact with the paddle boarder and brought her back to shore.

“Despite being a little exhausted, she did not require any medical attention,” said Maui Fire Services Officer Edward Taomoto.

Fire crews from Lahaina and ocean safety personnel from Hanakaʻōʻō “Canoe” Beach in Kāʻanapali also assisted in response.
