UPDATE: Missing Maui Work Furlough Inmate Arrested

Work furlough inmate LeRoy Wright was captured and returned Saturday night to the Maui Community Correctional Center. Wright left MCCC to go to work at 2:45 p.m. on September 30. During the work day a MCCC corrections officer went to Wright’s place of employment to check on him. Wright fled when he saw the corrections officer. Maui Police were notified.

Wright was serving time for first degree burglary. Second degree escape is expected to be added to his charges. He was tentatively approved for parole to begin on Oct. 14.

The search is underway for Maui work furlough inmate LeRoy Wright.

State officials with the Department of Public Safety say 37-year-old Wright fled at around 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 30, when a corrections officer with the Maui Community Correctional Center went to his place of employment to check on him.

DPS officials say Wright was serving time for first degree burglary and was tentatively approved for parole to begin on Oct. 14, 2015.  Authorities say second degree escape is now expected to be added to his charges.

Wright is classified as a community custody inmate, which is the lowest custody level.

Wright is described as 6’0” tall, weighing 177 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He also has tattoos on his neck that can be seen in the accompanying photo.

The public is advised not to approach, attempt to follow, or take any other action that could put them in danger.   Anyone with information on Wright’s whereabouts is asked to call 9-1-1.
