Development of “Safety Ambassador” Program Sought for Wailuku

The Maui Redevelopment Agency hosts a community informational meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 20, to address public safety issues in Wailuku town.

Organization representatives say there will be participation from members of the Maui Police Department Staff including: dispatch, crisis intervention, community policing, parking enforcement officers and a statistician.

Representatives of the Prosecutor’s office and Housing & Human Concerns are also expected to attend.

The event is scheduled for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2015 at the Good Shepherd Church Parish Hall, in Wailuku Town.  The meeting is open to the public.

A press release issued by the MRA indicates that Wailuku Town is looking to develop a “Safety Ambassador” program.

In preparation for the contract the Maui Redevelopment Agency has reportedly hired retired Police Officer Lawrence Kauhaʻahaʻa to assess existing conditions within the district, provide guidance and recommendations for making the neighborhood safer and to determine what changes are needed to ensure success of the program.
