Island Air Waives First-Bag Fee for Hawai‘i Residents During November

As part of its 35th anniversary celebration, Island Air will waive bag‐check fees on the first checked bag for kama‘āina during November.

“Our local communities have been incredibly supportive of Island Air over the past 35 years, and this is one more way we can say ‘mahalo’ while we continue to provide value to our kama‘āina,” said Island Air CEO Dave Pflieger.

An Island Air press release stated that this year has been focused on restructuring the company to position it for growth and a strong future, and those efforts are already producing solid results, including enhanced customer service and significantly improved operational performance and reliability—performance, which is not only markedly better than prior years, but competitive with that of the state’s largest airline.

“As we prepare to spend time with family and friends to give thanks and kick off the holiday season and get a head start on Christmas shopping, our Island Air ‘ohana is showing its appreciation to our local customers with an affordable, quality travel experience,” Pflieger added.

Hawai‘i residents flying on any Island Air flight from Nov. 1 to 30 will be able to check one bag for free. To qualify for the free first checked bag, passengers must present a valid Hawai‘i driver’s license or state ID card to a customer service agent at the ticket counter. Standard fees for additional checked bags ($25 for a second checked bag; $35 for each additional checked bag) as well as oversized and specialty items ($35 per item) will still apply.
