“Meet-and-Greet” with Kanahā Park Rangers on Monday

The County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation announced that two “meet-and-greet” sessions with Park Rangers at Kanahā Beach Park will be held on Monday, Nov. 30 from 9-10 a.m. and 1-2 p.m.

The public is invited to attend the sessions, which will be held at the Canoe Hale at Kanahā, to learn about the focus and priorities of the Rangers’ section of the department.

One of the issues that has surfaced is the homeless population in the area.  Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa notes that the Department of Parks and Recreation staff clean the park on Mondays and Tuesdays and no camping is allowed on those two days.  He said that is when many of the homeless sleep on the side of the road outside Kanahā.  Further details are available HERE.

The public is also invited to provide input on the future of Kanahā Beach Park at a Community Visioning Workshop on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015.

The workshop, hosted by the Maui Department of Parks and Recreation, will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Velma McWayne Santos Community Center in Wailuku.

County officials say the community workshop will allow residents to share ideas and feedback for consideration in the development of a proposed Master Plan for Kanahā Beach Park.
