Near fatal accident, South Kīhei Road.

A 44-year-old Wailea man suffered life-threatening critical injuries after he was struck by a car while walking on South Kīhei Road on Tuesday night, March 8, 2016.

The incident was reported at 7 p.m. just north of Ala Koa Street in Kīhei. Police say the collision occurred as a four door sedan, operated by a 53-year-old woman from San Mateo California, was traveling northbound on South Kīhei Road.

Police say the red 2014 Ford four door sedan struck the Wailea man who was walking southbound towards traffic within the northbound lane. The driver of the sedan, along with her 55-year-old male passenger, also of San Mateo, were not injured as a result of the collision.

The accident remains under investigation.  Police say the involvement of speed, drugs, and alcohol are still pending as the investigation is ongoing.
