Ask the Mayor: Who Put All the No Parking Signs in Kūau?

Dear Mayor,

Q: Walking around the Kūau neighborhood last week, we saw that there were “NO PARKING AT ANY TIME” signs everywhere. There are now only four spaces to park. I’m wondering if these are signs put up by the county or by someone in the neighborhood?

A: Signs were put up because road width is less than 18 feet (per Maui County Code 10.48-.030.A (15), and the Department of Public Works received numerous complaints that roads were unsafe for pedestrian use or fire truck access due to vehicles parked along the roadway.
