UPDATE: Maui Police Launch Murder-Suicide Investigation at Kahului Home
A murder-suicide investigation has been initiated at a Kahului home where a 69-year-old man and his 67-year-old ex-wife were found deceased on Thursday morning. Police say Wailuku patrol officers responded to a report of a suspicious call off of Akalei Place in Kahului at 9:47 a.m. on Thursday, May 5, 2016.
Upon arrival, Officers discovered the body of Dominador Basuel, 69, outside the residence with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A small caliber handgun was recovered near Dominador’s body according to police reports.
Checks within the residence revealed the body of Dominador’s ex-wife, Leticia Basuel, 67, who appeared to have wounds which were consistent with that of a bladed instrument, police said. Both Dominador Basuel and Leticia Basuel were pronounced dead at the scene.
Autopsies have been ordered on both individuals and an investigation into the case is ongoing.

Maui police are investigating a double fatality discovered at a home on Akalei Place in Kahului this morning.
The incident was reported at 9:47 a.m. on Thursday, May 5, 2016, when a neighbor called Maui Police Central Dispatch and asked that police be sent to his home.
When Wailuku patrol officers arrived on scene at 9:58 a.m., they spoke with a neighbor who described hearing a single gunshot.
Upon making checks at the neighbor’s home, officers discovered a deceased elderly man with an apparent gunshot wound.
Further checks of the home revealed that an elderly female was on the kitchen floor and was also deceased.
Police say an investigation is ongoing and the identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
