MVCB Appoints Duong as New Executive Director

The Maui Visitor’s and Convention Bureau has appointed Sherry Duong as its new executive director effective July 1, 2016.

Duong has been the MVCB director of Conventions, Meetings and Incentives and International Sales for the past five years. Prior to that she was with the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa.

“I am pleased that Sherry is stepping into the ED role here at MVCB,”said outgoing MVCB Executive Director Terryl Vencl. “She has proven herself to be a valuable member of the team and has contributed much to our organization in just five short years. With a strong background of more than 18 years in both sales and human resources in the visitor industry, Sherry has demonstrated a natural ability that will translate easily in her new leadership position.”

“The competition to succeed Terryl was fierce,” said John Monahan, president and CEO of the Hawai‘i Visitors and Convention Bureau [MVCB’s parent company] but at the end, Sherry’s proven track record of aggressively building business, her knowledge of the Maui visitor market and calm, reassuring leadership style won out. We are certain that she will smoothly take the baton from Terryl and aggressively build upon the great things that have been accomplished during Terryl’s tenure at MVCB.”

In her new role, Duong will be responsible for overseeing tourism marketing for the County of Maui and to continue the MVCB mission, which is to market and promote travel to the islands of Maui Nui and maintain a continuing interest in the visitor’s well being.
