This year will mark the 16th year of Paddle for Hunger, where the Maui community comes together on Thanksgiving Day to support Maui Food Bank in its mission to help feed the hungry.

Organized by Hawaiian Paddle Sports, last year’s Paddle For Hunger event raised $4,300 and 650 pounds of food for Maui Food Bank.

This year’s event takes place on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, with check-in at 7 a.m. and races set to start at 8 a.m. on the shoreline fronting the Kīhei Canoe Club at the intersection of Uwapo and South Kīhei Road.

Participants are invited to have fun by bringing anything that floats.  The race had jungle rules and is an un-timed “race” fundraiser. All proceeds from Paddle For Hunger benefit the Maui Food Bank.

The event is free and open to the public. Spectators are encouraged to come by, cheer on teams, win door prizes, and bid on silent auction items.

The public is also invited to drop off food or monetary donations in advance or on the day of the race at the following times and locations:

The drop off point is at Nalu’s from Saturday, Nov. 19 to Wednesday, Nov. 23 during business hours, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Look for the wooden canoe with the “Paddle For Hunger” sign.

Food Donations (Nov. 24): Food donations will be accepted on race day at Kīhei Canoe Club.

Monetary Donations (Nov. 24): Checks, cash and credit cards are accepted. Checks can be made payable to “Maui Food Bank.” All donations to Maui Food Bank (a 501c3 nonprofit) are tax-deductible.
