Ukumehame Brush Fire: Fire Under Control, Hwy OPEN

Fire personnel have managed to get the Ukumehame brush fire under control and do NOT anticipate closing the highway at this time. The Honoapiʻilani Highway remains OPEN as of 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016.
County officials extended a thanks to all Maui County fire fighters, police officers and other emergency personnel for their work to battle the fire.

The Honoapiʻilani Hwy remains OPEN at this time. Crews continue to battle a fast moving brush fire in Ukumehame, which is being fanned by gusty winds.

We have reports of fire crews battling a brush fire in the Ukumehame area of West Maui. Initial reports were received before 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016.
As of 9 a.m., West Maui motorists are being advised that a brushfire on the mauka side of Honoapiʻilani Highway in Ukumehame may force the closure of the highway if the blaze is not contained within the next hour.
Fire personnel say winds of up to 20 to 30 miles per hour are fanning fire, which was said to be near Ehehene Street.
A wind advisory is currently in effect for Maui County until 6 p.m. The National Weather Service says sustained winds of at least 30 mph or gusts of at least 50 mph are expected in some locations.
