Wes Lo Fund Raises Initial $55K at Mahalo Event
Maui Memorial Medical Center Foundation raised an initial $55,000 through a Mahalo Fundraiser for outgoing CEO, Wes Lo.
“I wouldn’t have had it any other way,” said Lo. “I was humbled by the event and the community members who took time out of their holiday schedules to be there to support our Maui hospitals.”
Lo first joined the Maui Region Health Systems as their Chief Financial Officer in 2004, being named Chief Executive Officer shortly thereafter.
Foundation leaders say that during his tenure, Lo worked to improve the Maui Region, which includes Maui Memorial Medical Center, Kula Hospital and Lanai Community Hospital.
This culminated recently with the passage of Act 103 – granting the Maui Region the opportunity to pursue a public private partnership.
With his departure, Maui Memorial Medical Center Foundation leaders said they wanted to create something special and reflective of Lo’s impact on the community.
The event featured Chinese lion dancers, an “Are You Smarter Than Wes Lo?” game, and presentations from board members and close friends.
Through ticket sales and donations, the event raised $55,000 to start the Wes Lo Fund to support the hospital for generations to come.
“We are grateful to the 300 community members who all came together to honor Wes and raise funds for our hospital at the same time,” said MMMC Foundation Executive Director, Lisa Varde.
The Maui Memorial Medical Center Foundation is a private, nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, dedicated to improving the quality of healthcare on Maui.
Thanks to donations, a volunteer Board of Directors, and staff, the MMMC Foundation is able to purchase state-of-the-art, life-saving medical equipment.
Funds are also used to support capital building and expansion projects, education and training for clinical staff, patient assistance programs and community outreach activities.
