Cinema Under the Stars. PC: Brendan George Ko

A free public event on Polynesian voyaging will take place tonight, Dec. 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kamehameha Iki Park in Lahaina.

The “Cinema Under the Stars” event will begin with a talk led by apprentice navigator Kala Tanaka on Wayfinder Skills and how to use your body to measure celestial objects and stars.

There will also be an update on the Hōkūleʻa Mālama Honua Worldwide Voyage and a screening of “Our Blue Canoe” at 6:45 p.m.  The documentary chronicles the epic journey of Pacific Voyagers in a fleet of traditional voyaging canoes as they sail across the Pacific.

The event is sponsored by Hui O Waʻa Kaulua and Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority.

This is a drug and alcohol free event. Attendees are invited to bring a chair or mat.

Kamehameha Iki Park is located at 525 Front Street in Lahaina.
