The West Maui Greenway Alliance and Maui Bicycling League are hosting a special Earth Day event on Saturday, April 22, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Lahaina Civic Center.

The Love the West Maui Greenway Day community event will help build support for the West Maui Greenway project.

The project is a proposed 25-mile, multi-use pathway along Maui’s West shore, aimed to provide safe, healthy and sustainable recreational opportunities for residents and visitors.

The event will offer information about the vision and mission of the project to address the importance of safe walkable and bikeable communities.

Attendees will “Get Fit the Green Way” by participating in guided exploration rides, a children’s keiki bike rodeo, classes by Good Karma Yoga, hula hooping and more.

Around noon, guests will have the opportunity to refuel at food trucks, learn traditional chants and hulas by Old Lahaina Luau and listen to entertainment by Melinda Carroll, Fred’s Garage, Anthony Pfluke and other local musicians.

Throughout the day educational booths will provide information on bike safety, nutrition, healthy living, environmental concerns, and the potential for the WMG as a bikeshare route.

The event is free and open to residents and visitors of all ages.

The event will be followed by an annual bike/walk/run to be enjoyed by visitors and residents along the proposed West Maui Greenway route.
